Importing donations without supporter key or email

Importing donations.  If I have a group of donations to import without a supporter key or an email, is there a way to use another field to “match” them as they are being imported?  An example of this would be a file downloaded from our merchant services with recurring donors.  Rather than have to look each supporter key/email up (neither are in the current file configuration in Paypal) or enter each manually, we want to download a file for importing since we have to do this monthly.

If you have someone in your office with a moderate level of skill using microsoft Access, you can solve the missing ID problem before you import data into Salsa.

If your group of donations has other information, like name and address, you could import your donation data into Access, then import your Salsa data into Access. Run an "update" query by matching the fields that you DO know and adding the ID to your donation data.  Then you're good to go with importing into Salsa without fear of creating dupes.

Thanks.  Part of the problem is that we will be importing donation files all the time since we are moving all our fundraising to Salsa.

I have been experimenting with importing our renewal and appeal replies using an upload template.  I've found it works best to match to the member number, otherwise there's ton's of duplication. Maybe there's a trick I'm not aware of, but we have too many supporters with similar names to risk not matching member numbers. We look up the membership number of a supporter and copy and past it into the excel spreadsheet, but solve that problem initially by printing membership numbers on our reply cards and mailing labels.

Hey Jenn - Thanks for your feedback - Just to clarify for other users, you're using the Supporter Key from the supporter records as the Membership Number, right? Thanks again. =)
